Water Blob

Water Blob

UPDATE:  I finally found out who the brilliant person is who came up with this idea!  The wonderful people over at Play At Home Mom, She actually has several different versions of the water blob on her site so please check it out!

Like many of you I am on Pintrest.  And I have seen this water blob around on several different sites for the last year but have just never gotten around to trying it with the girls.  I finally did this weekend.  Our weather here in the Midwest has been very fickle we are warm one day then it snows the next (AND IT IS MAY!)  So we have no clue when we can open up the pool and let the girls go swimming (my oldest keeps asking to go swimming).

That is why I thought doing the water blob would be a great way that they could kind of play on the water but not freeze because the water is too cold.  I have to say that they LOVED LOVED LOVED this.  My oldest could not wait for it to fill up with water and as soon as I gave her the go ahead she was on it jumping and playing and did not get off for HOURS!

I put some small squishy bath toys (I found at the dollar store) in the bag before we filled it up and the kids had fun searching for all the critters (kind of like a treasure hunt).  The blue color did fade as the day went on but that did not stop my girls from having fun.  Later in the afternoon we sprayed the blob with water and put some bath soap (so it does not sting their eyes) on it and they slipped and slided all over the thing.

My only warning is to keep it away from sharp objects, I let my girls get on it with their jeans and we got a hole right away, we patched it with duct tape and I had the girls change and did not have any other issues.

At the end of the day I just pealed back the tape from where the hose was and drained the blob I folded it up and put it in the garage.  This weekend it will be too cold even for this (another chance of snow.. really it is MAY).  But I am sure we will be bringing this out to use again soon!

Plastic Sheeting (15x25ft) Could use smaller
Duct Tape
Blue Food Color
Plastic Squishy Toys

Roll out your plastic sheeting and fold in half.
Using your Duct Tape tape the three open sides together.
Make sure to leave a small hole for the hose
Dump in your glitter, toys (make sure they are soft and have NO sharp edges), and blue food color.
Then insert your hose and fill your blob with water.
Once filled duct tape the hose hole close and let the kids have fun!
WARNING:  Not such a good idea to have them wear clothes with sharp items on them like jeans.  But no worries if you get a hole just duct tape it!  And have the kids put on swim suits!
 They can jump on it
 They can run on it
They can play chase on it
They can slide on it (works better if you spray some water on it to make it slippery)
Or you can just lay down and relax on it!
No matter what they do on the blob the kids will have fun and be entertained all day… mine were!
Make sure you check out Play At Home Mom for many other options of things to do with this fun Water Blob!

That looks awesome!! I wish I didn’t live an apartment I would totally make this. I loved the pics of your little one’s jumping and having the time of their life.

That stinks that you can’t do it, they girls had so much fun with it. Does your apt have any area’s of grass where you could still do it?

That is brilliant. I’m so annoyed I didn’t see this before the end of summer (Aussie) but I’ll definitely be trying it next summer. And I don’t have to panic about my little one ending up under water with it too. Amazing! (Found you through the Clever Chicks Blog Hop)

I know what you mean about worrying about the water. That is another great thing with this. I hope when summer comes your little one has as much fun with it as mine did!

The Water Blob looks like so much fun. I like the idea of putting soft toys inside. Thanks so much for the idea!

So the plastic doesn’t leak at all through the duct tape? It really can take all the jumping and slip sliding? (I have a 6 yr old and twin 4 year olds…it’s gotta last through them! That is awesome!

    1. Tracey Kite

Hi Amelia! We got the one hole in it and just duct taped it and that was it. We made sure when we taped it that we taped it up good, I believe my husband even folded over the plastic then taped it. I was shocked that we did not get more holes or leaks. I am sure it will up with your 6 yr old and two 4 year olds!

Thanks so much for sharing the link! I was not sure where this originated (I always state a source when I get an idea from someone else). I have seen so many different versions out there of this that I was not sure who had first come up with the idea! Thank you for the original idea, I am sure there are MANY kids out there that thank you too because this really is so much fun!

    2. Play At Home Mom

No problem. Thank you for your kind words. Its not always easy to track an activity to its original source, but sometimes if you check the blog posts dates of the similar posts you can figure out where it originated. Some of the blogs linked back to us, some didnt. This is something unique to Play at Home Mom and its such a hit that its very near and dear to our hearts. Thank you for being so receptive.

We’ve actually done a few versions on our blog – an I-spy version and a glow in the dark version (Im not sure I blogged about that one, though)….if you wanna check them out.

Your girls are very lucky to have such a playful mama. Happy playing……

I added a link to your site on the post so everyone knows that you are the brilliant person who came up with this! And I want you to know I did try and figure out who started this and have been to many sites that have this project posted but I never did find yours. I am truly sorry I used your idea and did not give you a shout out to start with but I truly did not know it came from you. I do however really appreciate you letting me know so that I can give the proper credit to you! And thanks again for coming up with this idea in the first place!
