Paper Plate Earth

For Earth Day this year we will be out picking up trash again since it is what my oldest wants to do every year.  She tells me each year that she wants to clean the world!  Oh how I wish that included her room, but alas it only includes the outside of the house…. sigh!

I did however still want to do some fun art for Earth Day and decided to have the girls make some paper plate Earth’s.  But instead of regular paint, I wanted to make some Eco Friendly Finger Paint.  We ended up just using flour, water, and food color for the paint.  So this paint is also baby safe since it is non toxic and editable, however I am fairly sure it wont taste very good so you might not want to actually eat it.

I had high hopes for the fun factor of this project since I was letting the girls dig in the paint and get all messy.  However my little one would not stick her fingers in the paint and requested a paint brush instead.  My oldest did have fun actually finger painting, and my little one still had fun with her paint brushes.

Supplies

1 Cup Flour
1 Cup Water
Green & Blue Food Color
Paper Plate
Paint Brushes (optional)

Directions

Mixing flour and water Mix 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of water in two separate dishes.  NOTE: Add water in slowly to avoid clumps

Add in food colorAdd blue food color to one bowl and green to the other.  You can use as much as you want to get your desired color, I used about 10 drops per bowl.

Finger painting the earthLet the kids dig in and paint their Earth with their fingers.

Painting the earth with a paint brushIf your kids are like my little one and wont put their fingers in it, then you can let them use paint brushes instead.
