Handprint Flower Pot

Handprint Flower Pot

My mom is one of those people who has everything she need and is extremely hard to shop for.   So when Mother’s Day comes around each year, I usually have the girls make something special for her instead of hitting the store to buy her something.  She tends to like the homemade gifts better than anything we could buy her and the girls LOVE to give her something that they made like these Handprint Flower Bags we made last year.

This year I thought it would be nice for the girls to make her a pretty Handprint Flower Pot for her to put on her porch.  Depending on the size of the pot you want to use and the age of your kids, you may have to do some fingerprint flowers instead.  We made two pots one for my mom and one for my mother-in-law.  One of the pots was smaller and my oldest (she is 6) had to do fingerprint flowers since her had was too big.

Oh goodness! Mother’s Day! I have to think of something. If my MIL liked gardening, this would be great! But now you have my mind turning! Thanks for sharing with Countdown in Style.

Will you also be bringing back the tags in the search results? Also, regarding the proposed changes to the page where a video actually plays, I didn't see the list of playlists of which this video is a part. Either you've decided to remove it, or I just didn't look hard enough. If it's the former, I hope you'll consider putting it back. If it's the latter, I hope you'll consider positioning it so that it can be found more easily. I'm only a viewer, not an uploader.

What kind of sealant should be used? Where can I get it? Looks like a fun project!

    1. wemadethat Post author

Hi Kim, You can use any you choose. If you go to the craft store or hardware store you will find that they have several different ones. For this one I used one in a can that I had to paint on, but in the past I have used spray on ones as well. As long as you seal it it should be fine no matter which one you use.

Hi! What type of outdoor paint did you use? Would this work with non-toxic finger paint? Thanks!

    1. wemadethat Post author

Hi Beth, You can find outdoor craft paint at any craft store. The outdoor paint tends to hold up better in the elements (sun, rain, etc.). If you keep this inside the non-toxic finger paint may work, however when I have used that paint in the past I noticed it was not as thick so it might not look as good using it.

I’ve just phoned my local hardware store to make sure they stock everything (they do, yay!) And he said I’d need to undercoat it before finger paint to ensure it sticks? Even with sealant over the top?

I have Tempura paint, but not outdoor paint. Can Tempura paint be used on the Terracotta flower pot? Will I find the outdoor paint at a craft store like Michaels or store like Home Depot?

    1. We Made That

Marilyn, I have never tried Tempura paint so I can not promise it will work. And yes you can find the outdoor paint at any craft store like Michaels, I am sure Home Depot sells it also but it will be a larger quantity than at the craft store.
